Getting to Singapore Changi Airport by Bus
Airport buses leave from various city destinations for the airport. The fare is just S$9.00 per adult and $6 for a child below the age of 12. Airport buses stop outside most of the main hotels in Singapore before heading for the four terminals in the airport complex.
Bus line 36 also runs between Singapore city destinations and Singapore Changi Airport. A single ticket for this service costs $2.00 for an adult; however, the journey takes around one hour to reach the airport, as the bus stops at many locations to pick up and drop off passengers.
Bus line 36 stops only at the three main terminals, but not at the Budget Terminal. Passengers using budget airlines should get off the bus at Terminal 1 and board the free of charge Skytrain to get to the Budget Terminal.
There are also a number of free shuttle bus services that take passengers from Bedok, Sengkang and Changi Business Park back to the airport.
Getting to Singapore Changi Airport by Coach
There is even a cross-border service that runs between Singapore Changi Airport and Johor Bahru in Malaysia. The Transtar Cross-Border Service leaves from coach stands at the main three terminals as well as the Budget Terminal. One way tickets from Johor Bahru to Singapore Changi Airport cost RM 7.00 for adults and RM 3.50 for children. The coaches leave every 60 minutes starting at 8.15 am from Singapore Changi Airport every day and starting from Johor Bahru at 5.00 am every day.
Getting to Singapore Changi Airport by Train
The train station – Changi Airport MRT station – is located underneath the main Terminals 2 and 3; the platforms can be accessed via the Arrivals and Departure halls by taking escalators and lifts down to the basement level. Trains run east bound to the train station at Tanah Merah and from there onwards to the airport. The first train service of the day arrives at Singapore Changi Airport at 5.26 am on Mondays to Saturdays and at 5.54 am on Sundays and on public holidays.
The fastest service is the Singapore Changi Airport Express. SMRT signs are located throughout the city alongside main roads.
Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) operates three main train lines, namely the North South Line, which travels from Marina Bay Station to Jurong East via Woodlands Station, the East West Line which travels from Pasir Ris to Joo Koon Station and the Circle Line service, which covers the stretch between Dhoby Ghaut and Harbour Front Stations. From here passengers can also board an extension to Marina Bay Station.
Getting to Singapore Changi Airport by Taxi
Taxis can be hailed in the street or booked in advance via the hotel reception. Taxis will drop passengers off at their relevant departure terminal and upon arrival at the airport passengers should follow the signs to their check-in area in the departure hall.
A typical taxi journey will cost between S$ 18.00 and 38.00 from the city to the airport and it will take around 30 minutes from most city center locations. All fares are metered and an additional airport surcharge applies (S$ 5.00 from 5.00 pm to 12.00 am from Fridays to Saturdays and S$ 3.00 at all other times). For journeys after midnight taxis charge an additional 50% of the final taxi fare until 6.00 am every day of the year.
Larger taxis that seat more than 3- 4 passengers will charge around EUR 60.00 for the single journey from the city to the airport. The city is located just over 20 km from the airport.
Getting to Singapore Changi Airport by Hire Car
Several car hire suppliers have rental desks at Changi Airport. Taking the East Coast Parkway (ECP) from the city to the airport is the quickest route. From Orchard Road in central Singapore it takes around 25 to 30 minutes to reach the airport.
From North Bridge Road drivers should head southwest toward N Boat Quay and then take the 1st right onto N Boat Quay, making a U turn and then driving onto the 1st left onto Hill Street. From here drivers should continue onto Victoria Street, taking a right turn onto Ophir Street, which is a partial toll road. Keeping to the right of Ophir Street when reaching the fork road, drivers should follow the signposting for ECP, which is also a partial toll road. ECP leads into Airport Boulevard, from where the terminals are signposted.
